Recipe from Y3K Delicious Cakes by Amy Heng
This recipe used steam bake method but the other recipe which I have used a long hours of steaming method. So I wanted to try out the steam bake method and compare both the outcome. I divided the batter into two portions. The oval Serikaya Cake was steam bake which has a dry and crack top :( but the cake was very soft. Whereas the square Serikaya Cake was very soft over all. :) Conclusion, I still preferred the steaming method.
The recipe used black treacle however I don't have that so I replaced it with Gula Hitam browning. (available at

Hi Annabelle,
The recipe book is worth buying, there are many interesting recipes. I had tried quite a few of them.
Hi Happy Flour,
May I know how much browning sauce did you put for the Serikaya Cake?
Mine didn't turn out to be same color as yours. I put only 2 tbsp.
Andrea
Hi Andrea,
I follow the recipe add about 100g of browning sauce. Browning sauce give the cake the caramel taste and colour. This is the sauce which make the cake so special.

Hi Happy Flour, May I know if the cake taste very sweet? Should we reduce any kaya or condensed milk?
Can any brand kaya be used? Like NTUC brand? Thanks in advance...

Hi Eron,
Yes, I did adjust on the sweetness from the condensed milk and sugar. Any brand of kaya also can.
Hi, Is there any taste different for these 2 recipe (Y3k & aunty Yoachana)? I have Y3k recipe, and wanted to try it out. I have tasted the sarawak sri kaya cake in Sarawak, is very nice just a bit sweet.
