'Happy Flour' Chocolate Fondant Cake






Yesterday, I was trying out this fondant cake. It was not an easy task covering fondant on a 7inches chocolate cake. As I don't have a longer rolling pin so it quite difficult to make sure that the fondant has an even thickness. However, I had a great time dressing up my 1st fondant cake. And my family give a 'WOW' to see the finished art piece. :)

I shared half of the cake with my neighbour and her children loved it very much, especially the fondant and this applied for my sons too. My younger one kept pinching out the flower fondant to eat till my cake became naked. From here, I think children will love fondant cake. But for me, I still prefer cake covered with whipping cream.

This cake is really beautiful. So impressed! Is it plain chocolate cake and after you covered the cake with fondant, is it just leave the cake outside? Thought of trying it, but still no confident.

I placed the fondant cake in a cake box and just leave it outside at room temperature. Don't worry, give it a try it not that difficult. You can try it on a small cake first, like me.

Hi Alice and Chris,

For my past fondant cupcakes, I used homemade marshmallow fondant but for this I try the ready to used fondant 'Bakels Pettinice'. I found that this is better and more manageable.:) Whereas the marshmallow fondant is too soft and it will absorb moisture from the cake easily and turn soft, sometime sticky.:( Maybe, my recipe is not so good.

This is really beautiful! You are getting better and better at fondant. Did you cover the cake with cream before covering with fondant? Just curious. I have not touched fondant before. :)

I don't have apricot gel so I just used piping jelly and spread a thin coating all around the cake before I cover it with fondant.

A tip that my cake decorating teacher gave me is to use a pvc pipe (u buy this from the hardware store) to roll out fondant. It can be cut to size and easier to handle the fondant.

You can get ready to roll fondant 'Bakels Pettinice' from Kitchen Capers or Sun Lik. Other brand of ready to roll fondant also available at Phoon Huat and other bakery mart. Happy baking.

hi happy flour,
did u underlay any buttercream before u cover the fondant? i made one fondant cake before & i did apply a very tin layer of buttercream mainly to crumb coat the cake but when i cut it i can see the cream tat stick to fondant layer become so sticky like glue... a bit yucky when eat it :p

hello there :) Does Bakels' fondant dry up easily? I am making a cake for my friend's baby's birthday tomorrow, but Satin Ice gives me the "elephant skin", probably too dry. Wanted to try Bakels but not sure if it's good.
